The Rig Pig - Vaping American Made Products
by Stephen Tarpey
As you will be aware we are big fans
of Vape AMP products with the V2
tube mod winning MOD of the year
at the 2016 Vapouround awards.
The first thing that strikes you about
the Rig Pig, is quite honestly just how
beautiful it is. The Rig Pig is the latest
offering from Vaping American Made
Products and boy does it deliver.
The MOD itself is so tactile and has such
a good weight that it screams premium
quality. A series dual battery unregulated
box mod, the rig mod is designed around
the rough neck V2 atomiser, which has
been around for a while now.
The threading on the Rig Pig itself is only
designed to fit the rough neck atomiser.
This is certainly not a device for the
novice – knowledge of MOD care is
certainly needed, or you could be in for
trouble. I have been running this MOD
with a 0.4 Ohm coil as advised by Vaping
American Made Products, and it kicks
out plenty of vapour and creates a great
flavour. A little side note of the rough
neck atomiser, it is a three pronged
atomiser which has a copper centre
terminal. If you look at the surface area
of the copper plate on the bottom of the
atomiser, you can tell this is designed
to take high currents.
In terms of operation, and this is a little
bit of a con for me, the instructions that
come with the rig mod are a little on
the sparse side. For someone with less
experience it could be confusing how to
load the batteries into the device so as
not to cause overheating in the cells.
A little diagram would make it simple...
just a little food for thought. In the
interest of information, the negative
terminal of the battery points towards
the ‘fire’ button and then the positive
terminal points towards the coil itself.
The benefit of using batteries in series,
is that it gives you more power as the
voltage of the cells add together.
The mod itself is pretty simple in design.
It weighs about two pounds, the outer
metal is made from brass, which looks
great and the internal metal connectors
are made from copper. The black
material is Delrin, a resin with strong
insulating properties. The insulator
throughout the MOD makes it safe
and ensures there are no nasty
electric shocks.
Regarding aftercare, the mod itself
is held together by two screws.
These are again insulated so no
current can flow through them; once
removed the mod splits into three main
components, the base, the body and
the top, which has the firing mechanism.
From time to time, you will need to
disassemble the components and polish
the contacts inside to keep your mod
working optimally.
The base has a brass case,
which is insulated with Delrin for safe
operation. Inside this you will find the
first connector, which is a solid copper
plate, which allows for a low resistance
connection between the two batteries.
The centre core is made from Delrin
and engraved on both sides, adding
to the design. The top of the MOD
comprises of a second brass case,
this time holding the firing mechanism.
This is set flush to the case and at an
angle to allow for a more ergonomic grip.
The copper firing pin also needs to
be removed and cleaned to maintain
optimal performance.
Overall this is a fantastic piece of kit,
especially its sturdiness. Looks and
vapour production are both amazing
too. It is not without its flaws, the lack
of instructions being one, also pricing
may be a slight concern for some vapers.
I think is definitely value for money and
will be in my collection for a long time to
come! 4/5
