Strength in numbers
One million people quit smoking in France from 2016-17, according to
Santé publique France, the nation’s public health agency. The plummeting
figures mark the first time the French smoking rate has decreased this
significantly in more than a decade. The results come from a survey which
examined the efficacy of anti-smoking measures the country has adopted
in the last ten years, including the use of e-cigarettes.

The Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (TVPA) formally legalizing and
regulating vape products brings the nation to a similar level as Europe’s
Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). The Act brings Canada in line with

Gut feeling
A recent study looking into the effects of vaping on the gut microbiome
suggests good news for e-cigarette users. The findings from an international
team of researchers from the UK and US show that while smoking cigarettes
can cause major changes to gut flora, vapers maintain similar gut bacteria
diversity to non-smokers.

Australia has the highest priced cigarettes in the world – a pack of cigarettes
reaching nearly $40 Australian dollars in this year's budget – so why aren't
people quitting? It could have something to do with the country’s stance on
