The Search For Home
By: Ebe Mondragon
I come from a land of poverty,
A land of authority,
But also, a land of hope.
From those who lived in three story houses,
To those who lived on the streets,
We all longed for success,
And my family was no different.
We scavenged for happiness, but rarely got it.
We migrated and left those we love behind,
Yet we are still unable to find a home.
Those who gave us work betrayed us,
Those who gave us homes destroyed us,
Those who promised the gift of love and acceptance
straight up ignored us,
But that changeds nothing.
We will continue to scavenge for happiness,
For acceptance,
For a home.
Not for us, but for our future generations
And those who are unable to stand for their nation.
Nothing will stop us, not even those who
DESTROYED US,
Not even the president who
ENSLAVES US.
