THINGS ARE LOOKING UP

July 1st marks the first day we can stop wearing masks here in British Columbia as we move in to phase 3 of opening up again . This also means theaters and larger venues can now open up and bookings for work are slowly coming back in for many . During lock-down magicians would post photos of them in their office about to perform a virtual show , and now things are opening up we are back to the pre-lockdown office photos of empty chairs at a venue . While I jest it is certainly a positive sign for performers who have not been able to work in over a year . Many have now moved on to other avenues of income and I feel we will see a new bread of younger magicians who are about to take center stage . VANISH will continue to bring both the old and new worlds together and find a way to connect them so we can learn and grow as an art form .
We have two cover stories again and I ' m proud to introduce Dania Diaz , one of the most talented and skilled magicians working today . You may have seen her on AGT Champions or other TV appearances , but now you can find out more about her upbringing and influences in magic .
Charles Bach is our other cover story and he shares his journey through the pandemic as he created a brand new theatre and now is back to performing nightly with his incredible show WONDERS . This is our first feature on what it is like being back to performing LIVE again after 15 months of no work . We will all have stories and I ' d love to hear yours so please drop me an email as I ' d love to chat about this .
This issue features some great magic including a fantastic color-change hanky routine by Christopher T . Magician . If you do any type of family show with kids then you will want to add this to your act . It ' s such a fun routine and has all the elements that makes it a great kids show piece . Louie Foxx has an impromptu mentalism piece you can do ANYWHERE as long as their is a bottle of Ketchup . Aaron Matthew offers a great routine that fooled me when I saw it for the virtual OR live performance . We will continue the virtual show routines because many magicians are now using this format to book work and talk to clients .
I ' ll have my own stories to share about my first show back soon , and I truly hope many of you reach out to me to share yours .
