OIL & GAS
LNG- a magnet for investment
The LNG sector continues to grow strongly. Consider the North Field Expansion in Qatar which could boost the country’ s LNG export capacity from 77 mtpa to 126 mtpa. The cost? Anything up to USD 45 billion. Other world-scale projects include Ruwais LNG( two liquefaction trains with a total export capacity of 9.6mmtpa, more than doubling ADNOC’ s LNG production output) and Australia’ s Scarborough Energy Project( up to 8 mtpa). The United States is also witnessing a slew of LNG investments, including Rio Grande LNG, Golden Pass LNG, Plaquemines LNG, Commonwealth LNG, C2P LNG and Delfin LNG.
LNG project( design capacity 9.5 mtpa). Also in Indonesia, a joint venture comprising Saipem and PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructors has been awarded an EPCI contract for an FPSO unit for the Kutei North Hub Field Development Project. In Norway, SLB OneSubsea has been awarded two contracts by Vår Energi ASA covering subsea production infrastructure
at the Balder and Goliat fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Nigeria could see ExxonMobil and partners invest USD 1 billion in the Usan Infill Project, boosting oil production by 40,000 bpd. In Saudi Arabia, Saipem has received a contract for the Uthmaniyah Gas Compression Plant project. In other news from the Kingdom, Fluor Corporation has been selected by Saudi Aramco as a program management consultancy contractor under a long-term agreement to support its global capital projects portfolio. Over to Canada, where a crude oil pipeline and energy corridor have been proposed to strengthen the country’ s energy security. Named the Northern Shield Energy Corridor, the 3,300-kilometre primary route stretches from Hardisty, Alberta, to Sarnia, Ontario. Finally, Kenya is a step further to welcoming a 700,000 bpd oil refinery following news that Dangote Industries has commenced preliminary development activities.
Materials
Equipment used in the oil and gas industry may be exposed to seawater, chlorides, hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, acids, and high temperatures. Striving to balance technical and economic parameters, engineers often select from the following materials: carbon steel( with coating or inhibitors), corrosion resistant alloys, glass-reinforced epoxy, fibre reinforced plastic, etc.
At the start of 2026 Tubacex signed three umbilical tube contracts worth a combined EUR 26 million, spanning projects in the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, the Europe – Mediterranean axis, Australia and Africa.
