grids that operate according to demand.“ Systems that continuously optimise their parameters based on previous consumption data contribute significantly to the efficiency of buildings – both in new construction and in the renovation of existing buildings,” emphasise the German Federal Association of the Technical Building Service Industry( BTGA) and the German Building and Air Conditioning Trade Association( FGK). The topic of sustainability thus offers suppliers – for example, from the valve industry – great economic opportunities. The demand for energyefficient, intelligently controllable and resource-conserving products is growing.“ Manufacturers of technical building service products and components such as valves and controllers play a key role here,” explain the BTGA and FGK associations. Solutions to optimise energy consumption, and, in particular, to reduce CO2 emissions are thus opening up new business areas.“ The growing market for sustainability offers enormous potential for innovation and growth.” This is also against the backdrop of the fact that the drive to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in existing buildings will only continue to grow.“ This requires major investment in renovation measures and the use of innovative technologies,” emphasise the two associations.
Markets on track for greater sustainability
The transformation of building services is taking place on a global scale. From KSB’ s point of view, Europe remains a central market with particularly high standards for energy efficiency, system integration and regulatory compliance. Driven by the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive( EPBD), extensive refurbishment work is expected in the coming years, particularly in the existing building stock.

“ This development requires solutions that are not just technically efficient, but also cost-effective and sustainable.” At the same time, fast-growing regions such as the Middle East and Asia-Pacific are gaining significance, according to KSB. The focus here will be on largescale infrastructure projects, primarily in the context of smart cities.“ The need for intelligent, energy-efficient building services is growing rapidly, primarily in the field of cooling technology and water infrastructure.” North America, meanwhile, is developing into an innovation engine for digital and sustainable building solutions, with political frameworks playing a central role. Africa, on the other hand, is seen as a future market with great potential for the expansion of basic infrastructure and resource-saving technologies.
AI optimises processes independently
The future belongs to smart buildings, and it looks very promising. In a“ smart building”, many processes run autonomously, often controlled by artificial intelligence.“ Even in terms of just heating and cooling, there is enormous potential for energy savings. At the same time, networked solutions can make buildings safer and more comfortable,” reports the energy supplier EnBW. From EnBW’ s point of view, smart buildings represent the next step in the evolution of building services. Intelligent buildings are not only equipped with state-of-the-art technology, but also extensively networked so they can collect and analyse data and then act on it.“ Thanks to artificial intelligence( AI), many processes can be automated and optimised independently.”
