How another year has rolled around and we are in Autumn again! The change in weather is gradual yet still sudden, so my boyfriend and I have been prepping our allotment garden for the winter. We planted garlic last week and we already see the sprouts coming through! The year goes by quick for us here, with so many deadlines to meet and events to plan, and one of those events happens to be the Valve World Conference Düsseldorf. What a programme we have! It’ s been incredible to see how this whole event comes together, and I’ m looking forward to sharing the finished programme with you all. In this issue, we have the updated Advanced Conference Programme, sharing more detailed related to the panels, the Young Engineer Programme and our VALVE Talks forum. In this issue, we welcome MRC Global to the cover where Michael Maar explains how API RP 751 and MSS SP-160 define Low-RE requirements, and what that means for HF alkylation valve specifications and purchase orders. This is also our Water and Wastewater special, and it is certainly a bumper issue! We take a look at the Tijuana River Project, where the US Environmental Protection Agency and Mexico’ s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources are working together to tackle chronic pollution. We also explore Jordan’ s ambitious water desalination and conveyance project, which combines large-scale seawater reverse osmosis with hundreds of kilometres of transmission infrastructure and renewable energy generation. These projects highlight the scale of the challenges involved in securing clean water and protecting the environment, as well as the infrastructure and engineering needed to make progress. Beyond our water-focused features, there is plenty more to explore. We look at design validation testing and the differences between API 6D Annex F and ISO 23632, consider the hidden risks behind familiar technologies in EPC projects, and examine how industrial AI could shape the future of valve maintenance. We also turn our attention to control valve sizing, check valve replacement, hydrogen sealing challenges and the issue of obsolescence in nuclear safety-related applications. As always, I hope you enjoy this issue and find something that sparks your interest, whether that is a new technical insight, a project you hadn’ t heard about before.
Happy reading, and I hope to see many of you in Düsseldorf.
Best wishes, Lyndsey Denton-Fray Editor of Valve World
