Aeration air flow control optimised on Stendal WWTP
The Stendal wastewater treatment plant upgrade replaced 20 butterfly valves with four 4-inch ( DN 100 ) Egger Iris ® Control Valves , implementing a SCADA control strategy . This change significantly improved oxygen control accuracy , with dissolved oxygen ( DO ) concentrations maintained within ± 0.04 mg / l of the setpoint . The precise control and extended range of the Iris ® valves enabled a reduction in compressor pressure . Using sliding pressure control , pressure was lowered to 0.42 psi ( 29 mbar ) above static pressure . This improvement positively impacts the overall process and energy consumption of the aeration tanks . The upgrade resulted in energy savings due to a lowered DO setpoint and improved oxygen transfer . Additionally , the higher flow capacity of the Egger Iris ® valves allows for more effective diffuser flushing compared to the previous butterfly valves .
