Cadent launches final consultation on HyNet hydrogen pipeline
Cadent has announced a statutory consultation on its plans for a new underground hydrogen pipeline in the North West UK , running from 14 October to 19 November 2024 . The consultation includes eight
in-person events and two online sessions . The project involves constructing , operating , and maintaining approximately 100 km of pipeline to distribute low carbon hydrogen from EET Hydrogen ’ s Stanlow
Manufacturing Complex to various industrial users . The plans include nine Hydrogen Above Ground Installations and two Block Valve Installations along the route . This consultation , likely the final stage before submitting
a Development Consent Order ( DCO ) application , seeks feedback on updated designs , Draft Order Limits , and the Draft Environmental Statement . Cadent expects to submit the DCO application in Spring 2025 , with a decision anticipated in 2026 . Rob Donovan , Project Director , emphasised the importance of community feedback in shaping the project , which aims to support the UK ’ s 2030 zerocarbon power system target and broader net zero goals .
Superior Sensor Technology develops integrated Auto Zero Valve
More nuclear enables faster decarbonisation and greater security of supply
Superior
Sensor Technology has introduced the AZ100 , an Auto Zero Valve ( AZ valve ) that directly connects to their advanced pressure sensors for applications requiring automatic zero calibration . This innovation simplifies circuit designs by eliminating tubing between the AZ valve and pressure sensor , enabling shared printed circuit boards with non-auto zero implementations .
The AZ100 compensates for offset or drift due to environmental factors or wear , enhancing system reliability in various field conditions . It is designed for use in HVAC , ventilators , and industrial equipment . Anthony Gioeli , Vice President of Marketing , highlighted the growing demand for AZ valves , particularly in Scandinavian countries where they have become mandatory in differential pressure transmitter implementations . The AZ100 integrates an AZ valve into a micro plastic enclosure , offering high reliability with over one million cycles . It is compatible with all of Superior Sensor ’ s pressure sensors and operates effectively in extremely low temperatures .
A recent report by Compass Lexecon for nucleareurope suggests that increasing nuclear capacity in Europe would lead to faster CO 2 emissions reduction , lower long-term energy system costs , reduced energy imports , and improved security of supply . The updated “ Pathways to 2050 ” report indicates that 150 GW of installed nuclear capacity in the EU by 2050 could save around 430 million tonnes of CO 2
, EUR 310bn in total energy system costs , and reduce gas consumption by about 180 billion cubic metres . It could also decrease dependence on hydrogen imports by up to 33 %. Yves Desbazeille , nucleareurope Director General , emphasised
how nuclear can help address Europe ’ s challenges of achieving net zero , ensuring the security of supply , and providing affordable energy . The study compares scenarios of 100 GW , 150 GW , and 200 GW installed nuclear capacity by 2050 . It highlights nuclear ’ s potential to enable faster decarbonisation , lower longterm costs , support the security of supply , reduce clean hydrogen import dependence and enhance EU industrial competitiveness . The report also explores nuclear ’ s potential impact on the heat market , particularly regarding Small Modular Reactors ( SMRs ) and their expected medium- and long-term benefits .
