By the time you read this editorial , the Valve World Conference & Exhibition will be just days away . Stretching over three packed days from 29 November to 1 December in Dusseldorf , Germany , it is a most welcome opportunity to meet in person again after the delays and postponements of the past three years .
Much has changed in that time , and the world looks very different than it did when the global Valve World community last met in 2019 . However , what hasn ’ t changed is the value of face-to-face personal contact , a chat over coffee after a conference session , and a handshake on the expo floor . While online events have their place , I believe we have all learned that there is nothing quite so rewarding or beneficial as meeting in person .
To help you prepare for your visit to Valve World , we have included the complete Advance Conference Program in this issue . Take some time to browse the timetable of technical paper sessions and interactive workshops to pick which ones are going on your must-do list . Above all , bring your questions ; rarely will you have a better opportunity to pose these to such a wealth of valve end-users and experts as you will find at Valve World !
This month we welcome Turkish company SMS Tork to the cover . Be sure to read their article , which looks at how tradition and ambition play essential roles in driving the company ’ s growth . Over the past 37 years , it has grown from a pioneer in the manufacture of pneumatic actuators and solenoid valves into a globally established specialist in flow control solutions .
This month ’ s special focus topic is water and wastewater , and the Valve World team has compiled some great articles on this topic . James Chaters ’ feature : ‘ Water and the circular economy ’ focuses on how valves and actuators play a vital role in building , maintaining and upgrading water management infrastructure . In the past few months , extreme weather conditions around the world have laid bare shortcomings in such infrastructure in several countries and highlighted the importance of investing in these as our weather and climate become more extreme .
Valves can also play a key role in preventing water wastage . Fabio Ries emphasises this in his article about Shenzhen in China , which has invested in stainless steel water supply systems to prevent water loss while eliminating maintenance and cleaning .
For those readers craving something a little more technical , try the end-user feature written by Mr Murugappan , Instrumentation Engineer at Dow Chemical International . He discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using a single valve for both throttling and on / off functions .
If fugitive emissions are a concern for you , be sure you don ’ t miss Michael Hunts ’ article : ‘ How to eliminate emissions from pressure relief valves ’. Or perhaps Samuel Venel ’ s feature about the use of numerical simulation during the casting of valve parts , which provides information that cannot otherwise be seen …
All in all , we ’ ve got a great line-up of articles for you in this issue and I hope that you enjoy reading it . Remember , if you ’ d like to meet the Valve World team during the event , feel free to send me an email to arrange this . We ’ re always happy to meet our community in person !
