Valves in LNG
Valves play a huge role in the LNG sector. Types of valves commonly found in this sector include globe valves, ball valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, check valves, cryogenic valves and safety valves. These valves have to ensure that the LNG process runs safely and efficiently, from the production stage to the regasification stage. These valves have to be able to handle extreme temperatures, high pressure and severe environments.

Globe valves Globe valves have a disc that moves up and down perpendicular to the seat, which allows for better throttling capabilities. With this design, precise flow control is available, as well as flow rate regulation.
Ball valves Ball valves use a ball( a spherical disc) to close of the flow. When the ball is properly aligned with the connecting pipework, then the valve is fully open, and the medium can clow through the valve. The valve can be closed with a 90-degree turn. This design offers a tight shutoff and simple on / off control, which are crucial for LNG applications.
Butterfly valves Butterfly valves function with a rotating disc to control the flow. With this disc perpendicular to the pipework, the butterfly valve is closed, and the flow stops. Like ball valves, with a 90-degree turn, the valve can be opened.
Check valves Check valves, also known as non-return valves, one-way valves or backflow preventer, are self-activating devices that permit gases and liquids to flow in only one direction. These valves are essential in cryogenic service as they work to avoid the backflow of LNG into upstream equipment.
