Precision under pressure
It brings me great joy to introduce myself as the new Editor of Valve World Magazine. My name is Lyndsey Denton-Fray, and whilst you may have seen a few pieces in our previous issues with my name on, this issue is where I get to debut on our editorial page!
I’ ve been working in the background researching and networking to ensure that I build not only a solid knowledge base for the magazine, but also for you as readers to ensure you get the most out of the magazine. And although I have learnt so much, I am always open to discussions and feedback to ensure our magazine remains top quality.
So, with proof of listening to our readers and hearing the need for more introductory content, I took the time to do desk research to give a short primer into the Liquified Natural Gas( LNG) sector and the valves that are commonly used within LNG plants. This overview is designed to provide helpful context for both newcomers and seasoned readers alike.
Not only has this edition’ s special focus on LNG shaped this month’ s magazine, but it is also quickly shaping global energy dynamics. With the world needing to move toward cleaner energy sources, LNG is playing a major role in this global energy transition, making way for new markets and innovations. In this issue, we welcome an exclusive interview with the lead plant engineer at NLNG. In this article, the reader gets to experience the challenges that engineers are faced with at an LNG plant, focusing on the maintenance, operation and dealing with the complex issue of lead times.
In addition to our LNG content, this issue also dives deep into several technical developments shaping the broader valve industry. These articles range from new developments in sealing solutions, advancements on the coatings provided for valves in harsh conditions and the concept of a universal coupling in valve automation for upward and downward stream facilities.
Finally, we welcome Bonney Forge back again to our cover. In their cover story, Bonny Forge highlights how the company’ s control over forging, machining and testing delivers consistent quality across forged and cast valves, specialty fittings and complete valve packages.
Valves are under pressure, in more ways than one, to deliver high performance, safety and precision, and it’ s with this issue that we hope to have given a rounded view of the LNG sector and the many more articles that fill out this edition.
As always, we welcome your feedback and look forward to engaging in further discussions with you as we continue to explore the rapidly changing world of valve technology in LNG.
As much as Valve World Magazine is now mine, it’ s also very much still yours.
Best wishes, Lyndsey Denton-Fray Editor of Valve World editor’ s page
