Changes and innovations in Oil & Gas
This month , Valve World ’ s special focus is the Oil & Gas industry , an industry that is constantly undergoing many changes and transitions . With emission standards and time constraints causing companies to find more innovative ways to meet their targets , new technologies and highlighting the importance of communication is discussed in this issue .
An up-and-coming technological advancement in the valve industry is that of 3D printing . In our visit to MX3D , we got to see firsthand the advancements that are happening with 3D printing in the world of valves in an interview with CEO Gijs van der Velden . Here , Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing ( WAAM ) technology with the development of CAD / CAM software and the introduction of robotic systems is making room to produce metal components on-demand , looking to offer significant reductions in cost and lead times . These technological advancements in additive manufacturing are opening new doors for industries to produce parts quicker and cheaper , creating space for new expectations in the valve industry .
The need for innovation in Oil & Gas is not just about improving processes and reducing costs , but also about addressing the growing demands for sustainability . This issue features a discussion on the California Carbon Capture and Storage ( CCS ) project , where CO2 is being injected into old fossil fuel extraction reservoirs . This marks an important step in reducing the environmental footprint of the industry and showcases how innovation is driving progress toward greener practices .
One of the standout features in this edition is our cover story on KITZ Corporation , which is rethinking its approach to align with societal and industrial shifts . CEO Makoto Kohno and Senior Executive Officer Yasunori Sugita shed light on how KITZ is striving to adapt to emerging customer requirements and changing market demands . Their commitment to continuous improvement and sustainability is clear , and it ’ s an inspiring example of how companies can remain relevant and forward-thinking in such a dynamic sector .
In addition , we explore innovations that enhance the performance of valves in serious environments , including bioenergy , offshore platforms and residue upgrading . New developments in valve technologies are making significant strides in areas such as waste-to-energy and carbon capture , where reliability and performance are key . Articles on valve durability in residue upgrading and bioenergy illustrate the evolving challenges and solutions that companies are adopting to ensure long-term success .
Of course , the oil and gas sector is not only about technologies and processes but also about the people driving these changes . A key topic in this issue is the need for young engineers , whose creativity and drive will shape the future of the industry . This issue explores the importance of internships and how educational initiatives like Valve World ’ s Young Engineer Program are contributing to nurturing the next generation of talent .
At Valve World , we remain committed to showcasing the innovations and leaders who are pushing the boundaries of what ’ s possible .
We hope this issue offers a thought-provoking look at the ways in which the Oil & Gas industry is embracing new technologies and tackling its most pressing challenges .
As always , we welcome your feedback and look forward to engaging in further discussions with you as we continue to explore the rapidly changing world of valve technology in Oil & Gas .
Best wishes , Joanne McIntyre Editor-in-Chief of Valve World j . mcintyre @ kci-world . com editor ’ s page
