Petrobras breaks record for CO2 reinjection in pre-salt
Petrobras reinjected 14.2 million tons of CO2 into the Santos Basin pre-salt reservoirs last year, surpassing the volume of 13 million tCO2 reinjected in 2023. In addition to being a pioneer in ultra-deep waters, the programme is the largest in operation in the world, considering the amount of CO2 reinjected annually. According to the latest report by the Global CCS Institute( GCCSI, 2024), the annual injection capacity of CCUS( carbon capture, utilisation and storage) projects in operation worldwide reached 51 million tCO2 in 2024. Thus, injection into pre-salt reservoirs corresponds
to more than a quarter( 28 %) of the global capacity reported for the year 2024. Pioneering technologies contributed to a cumulative injection volume of 67.9 million tons of CO2 between 2008 and 2024. Currently, 22 FPSOs( platforms that produce and store oil) operating in the Santos Basin presalt are equipped with systems for capturing and reinjecting CO2. The application of this technology in the ultra-deepwater environment is a pioneer in the world and, while reducing CO2 emissions, optimises oil recovery( CCUS-EOR).
CBI and Joint Forces complete liquid hydrogen storage at NASA
Mexican valve manufacturer Walworth opens new production facility in Dubai
CB & I with Shell International Exploration and Production, Inc., GenH2 and the University of Houston recently completed an affordable, large-scale liquid hydrogen( LH2) storage tank concept at NASA’ s Marshall Space Flight Centre( MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama. The project, announced in 2021 and supported by the US Department of Energy( DOE), developed a novel non-vacuum tank design concept for large-scale storage of LH2 of up to 100,000 cubic meters. This is anticipated to provide a substantial cost advantage over conventional vacuum insulated tanks. The concept is being demonstrated through the construction, startup and testing of a small-scale LH2 demonstration tank at NASA MSFC.
Walworth have announced the grand opening of its state-of-theart production facility in Dubai— an exciting milestone that not only strengthens its supply chain but also solidifies our position in the rapidly growing Middle Eastern market. For over 15 years, Dubai has played a large part in its operations in the region. With this new facility, Walworth are setting the stage for transformative improvements in our processes, allowing it to deliver products faster and more efficiently while forging closer relationships with its clients across Asia and the Middle East. www. valve-world. net Valve World June 2025
