This month , our focus is on the chemical industry , and James Chater has provided a great overview of the challenges facing this industry and its struggles with recycling and reducing its environmental footprint . We ’ ve also highlighted some major new projects in the industry worldwide . The chemical industry is growing rapidly , offering many possibilities for valve and actuator manufacturers and suppliers to provide significant amounts of equipment .
This month , we welcome our friends OMAL to the cover . They are an Italian manufacturer of high-quality valves and actuators . If you attended the Valve World event in November , you might have had the opportunity to see their new and revolutionary pneumatic actuator in action : the Rackon-X . This month , we welcome a new columnist to Valve World : Jon Monson , a control valve specialist from the US . Jon will be providing insightful monthly columns and can also answer your questions , should you wish to pose these to him . See his first column on page 12 .
I was delighted to meet and interview Angeline Goh , the Global 3D Printing Technology Manager at Shell , during the Valve World conference . She provided some fascinating insights into the potential of additive manufacturing technology for the energy industry . Her work is transforming the way Shell manages its material inventory and may well contribute to transforming the energy sector ’ s supply chain . Additive manufacturing technology is turning the idea of inventory stock on its head . “ Maintaining large inventories buys us a false sense of security ,” she told me during our interview . Be sure to read all about it from page 26 .
