Samsung Engineering wins Malay gas plant project
Samsung Engineering Headquarters in Seoul .
Samsung Engineering Co . has won a USD 680 million gas plant construction order in Malaysia from UK-headquartered energy giant Shell plc ’ s subsidiary Sarawak Shell Bhd . The gas plant will be built in Bintulu , Sarawak in East Malaysia , to process 800 million cubic feet ( ft 3 ) of gas a day . The plant will remove sulfur-containing impurities from the gas – which is extracted from the deepwater gas field – and send the high purity gas to liquefaction facilities to be used as an element in liquefied natural gas ( LNG ). Samsung is planning to complete the project , named Shell Onshore Gas Plant for Rosmari Marjoram , via engineering , procurement and construction ( EPC ) by 2025 . It will have participated in all the stages of the project since joining the front-end engineering design ( FEED ) in 2020 , which is in the early project planning stages . The Korean firm has carried out more than 10 projects in Malaysia , including clean hydrogen development and methanol plant construction in Sarawak . It expects to fully utilize its current human resources , equipment and network in Sarawak for the Shell onshore gas plant project .
Germany to build first gas import terminal
The first of four planned liquid natural gas import terminals in Germany now has gained expedited construction approval as the country accelerates its effort to separate from Russian energy supply networks due to the ongoing war in Ukraine .
Federally-selected utility operator Uniper has not released details of costs for the terminal at the northern port of Wilhelmshaven , but several reports describe it as an estimated USD 69 million facility . Set to operate late this year or in early 2023 , the terminal will handle 7.5 billion m 3 of natural gas per year , about 8.5 % of Germany ’ s current demand . Permits will allow construction of both land and sea infrastructure at the site to support floating storage and regasification unit ( FSRU ) operations . Other LNG import facilities are planned for the German cities of Stade , Brunsbüttel and possibly Hamburg . Uniper has already chartered two FSRUs , each able to store 174,000 cu m of LNG , convert it to a gaseous state onboard and feed it into the grid . They are set to begin service in early 2023 . German utility giant RWE also had chartered two FSRUs , each able to receive up to 170,000 cu m .
Fluor : Fortress Energy LNG project
Fluor Corporation has been awarded a full notice-to-proceed contract by New Fortress Energy Inc ., for the engineering , procurement and fabrication management of the NFE Fast LNG 2 project . The project is a nominal 1.4 million tonnes per annum LNG gas treating and liquefaction plant to be placed on fixed offshore platforms . Fluor will book the undisclosed reimbursable contract value in the second quarter of 2022 . The Fast LNG 2 project is another offshore modular mid-scale LNG plant that NFE has awarded to Fluor this year . The first NFE Fast LNG 1 project was awarded in the first quarter of this year and is a similar modular mid-scale design being installed on repurposed drilling jack-up rigs . This modular plant will be installed by others and available for dispatch to various locations around the world providing NFE the opportunity to access multiple gas supply sources .
Indian sewage treatment plant
India ’ s Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is planning a new 375 MLD sewage treatment plant as well as upgrading related infrastructure including three terminal sewage pump stations under DBO basis . Operation and maintenance for 15 years is included
Project overview
in the scope . The project is funded by the World Bank and the estimated value of the contract is INR 6,970 million . The new plant will come up in place of the existing 126 MLD sewage treatment plant . The treatment process would include preliminary treatment , grit removal , odour control unit , biological treatment , tertiary treatment , disinfection , sludge thickening , dewatering and sludge drying . The project should be completed in 54 months and the finalization should be done by the end of 2022 . Technical and engineering support for bidding for this and many other water & wastewater treatment and desalination projects is provided by Fichtner Consulting Engineers – a leading German firm in energy , environment , infrastructure , water and financial advisory services .
Baker Hughes wins Indian geothermal contract
Hughes has signed a contract with Cairn Oil & Gas , the biggest private oil and gas produces in India , to extract geothermal energy from repurposed oil and gas wells around the Raageshwari Deep Gas field in Rajasthan . About 2.4 MW of electricity is expected from this project , enough to offset 17,000 tons of greenhouse gas per annum . The contract will include a feasibility study on the potential of geothermal power generation from repurposed hydrocarbon wells , designing the project , constructing a pilot plant for testing , and executing the fullscale project . About 2.4 MW of geothermal energy is expected to be extracted from repurposed oil and gas wells in India “ Across the world , there is a drive to promote geothermal energy from dying oil fields . At Cairn , we are committed to bringing the best of global practices to India and aid our country ’ s journey towards energy independence ,” said Cairn Oil & Gas Deputy CEO Pracur Sah .
