THE PENASCAL WIND FARM PROJECT , KENEDY COUNTY , TEXAS , USA
The Penascal Wind Farm Project is said to be the largest onshore wind power plant in the world . Built on 300 acres of private land in Kenedy County , Texas , this project has an installed capacity of 404 megawatts , fulfilling the electricity consumption requirements for up to 150,000 families . The Penascal Project consists of two wind farms : Penascal I and Penascal II . This project has 168 wind turbines and each farm consists of 84 turbines . Each turbine can generate 2.4 megawatts of electricity . This project is the first to install radar technology , which identifies migratory birds approaching the towers and shuts down the turbines during poor visibility . 3
