Hope for the new year

Each new year can feel like a vast, uncharted landscape, and surviving it, emotionally, mentally, and physically, takes more than good intentions. It requires resilience, perspective, and personal grace.
The new year brings fresh challenges: deadlines, expectations, and the pressure to“ do better, be better.” We all accept that not every day will be easy, and not every resolution will stick. But that’ s not failure, it’ s life. The key is learning to bend without breaking, to adapt, rest, and restart when necessary.
This first edition of 2026 highlights stories of survival and generosity. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a difficult subject to confront. We spoke with Savannah Causey of Greenville, Pennsylvania, a courageous survivor who rebuilt her life after years of abuse and now
helps others find safety and healing. We also share the inspiring story of Vinton Smith, on a mission to donate blood in all 50 states, showing how one person’ s effort can ripple outward and change countless lives.
The new year also brings new beginnings. Be sure to explore our special bridal and wedding section, and our best wishes to all couples saying“ I do” in 2026.
On our cover, we spotlight the team behind Westminster College’ s Celebrity Series, the individuals who bring world-class performances to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, while working behind the scenes.
We also feature the Harrisville Community Band, an all-volunteer group that has been providing free concerts for 60 years, and the Boar’ s Head Festival in Sharon, Pennsylvania, an annual celebration
of tradition and community. As we move through the year ahead, remember that survival isn’ t a solo act. Leaning on others can turn a difficult day around. Ask for help when needed, and offer kindness when you can. Both are critical lifelines.
The year will bring storms and triumphs, but we don’ t need to conquer it— only live it, one moment at a time. Surviving is its own success, and every small act of courage, connection, and compassion turns survival into a life well-lived.
Wishing you a healthy, happy new year.
