And when audience members leave smiling, especially after discovering a new favorite artist, it’ s deeply rewarding.“ It means we’ ve done our job.”
Advice for the next generation For those dreaming of a career like hers, Connie offers sage advice:“ Know your audience. You’ re programming for them, not for yourself.”
While it’ s tempting to book personal favorites, she warns that disconnecting from the patrons can lead to empty seats.“ You can nudge the audience toward new experiences, but only if they trust you first.”
Another piece of advice:“ Respect the artists’ time and space,” she said.“ Touring is exhausting. Providing a low-stress, supportive environment makes all the difference.”
Looking ahead
The Celebrity Series remains a jewel in Westminster College’ s crown, and a labor of love for Connie.“ It’ s about more than the music,” she said.“ It’ s about people. Community. Relationships. That’ s what keeps me excited about every season.”
And as patrons file out of Orr Auditorium, chatting, smiling, and already asking about the next performance, it’ s clear: the Celebrity Series isn’ t just entertainment. It’ s a tradition, a connection, and for many, a little bit of magic right in the heart of western Pennsylvania.
There are two remaining shows in this season. On March 28, Celebrity Series will present“ Celebrating Three American Troubadours,” and, on April 25, the performance will be“ Commotion: A Tribute to the Music of Credence Clearwater Revival.” V
