Great Social Media Is Like Babysitting Newborns

When hiring someone to market your business, the decision is just as critical as whom you hire to watch your newborn baby. In fact, I propose that good social media is a lot like watching a newborn. You can't rest, you can't take your eyes off it, you are never far from it wanting or needing your attention. It can be sleeping for 8 hours and then awaken shrieking as if the world is about to end.
When deciding whom should market your business, consider these facts. Someone that has just graduated is not going to have the skills or practical experience as the mother with 25+ years of successful mothering. You would never hire a nanny that had no track record of success with children previously and hiring someone to market your business is no different.
Most business owners do not want to understand how Facebook works, so they just hand it off as a low priority task to someone nearby and convenient. This is a giant mistake that has a huge impact on your business. A recent case study just showed that a client of The Social Media Masters was reaching approximately 7,000 people per week with a modest $5 per day ad budget. Less than one week after an hourly, in house employee took over, the page is down 73% and continuing to drop. You need someone to research local groups, every week, because you may lose some and new ones may come up. This person is sharing content regularly on pages and groups that are beneficial for that particular client. Someone else needs to comment as the page, as the owner and sometimes as a Mascot (that is a whole different article!). Engaging with the people that come to the page is something that needs to be monitored at least 12 to 14 hours per day to ensure that all messages, reviews and complaints are responded to in a timely manner.
