The Valley View Wrestling is expected to have a large team this year. With 41 kids that showed up at the annual meeting the they are expected to have a full team. With 13 weight classes they are expected to have 11 of the 13 classes filled. The team is on the up and up and is expected to have a very powerful roster in years to come. With the scheduling help of Coach Holt the head coach of the upcoming team. And the wrestling knowledge of Jeremy Harris a volunteer wrestler who is very dedicated to making us better wrestlers. One of the promising upcoming freshman wrestlers is Cooper Lutz. He plans on wrestling at the 170 weight class and has been working all summer to wrestle for the varsity team. Another promising freshman is William Bouie he is a 132 pound wrestler who has the speed and the natural ability to be a good wrestler this year. Another promising wrestler is the returning junior Zach Lutz he placed third at state last year and is planning on wrestling 152 this year and winning the state tournament quite possibly winning a bid to the freestyle nationals. Coach Holt is relatively new to the sport with little wrestling knowledge. But what the team hasn't had in past years was a coach that was interested in making the program more successful. What Coach Holt has done is made kids gain interest in the sport. Giving many kids an off season sport to keep them in shape. Also he has scheduled a bunch of tournaments for mat time. In order to have a good team all the wrestlers need an abundance of mat time to be successful.
We interviewed seniors: Blake Arnoult, Jacob Snyder, Kaleb Bearce, Chase Carter, Jesus Mendoza and Connor Long. First, we asked who they think the toughest game this year would be. Seniors Kaleb Bearce and Blake Arnoult think Wynne, Nettleton and Batesville will be our toughest games of the season, mainly because they are considered the top of the Five A East Conference in previous years. Chase Carter thinks Rivercrest whom we beat last season by a game winning field goal will be our toughest opponents. However, seniors Connor Long, Jacob Snyder and Jesus Mendoza think if we play like we game plan and are coached to we will be able to win all of our games this season and hopefully win the conference this year. We also asked them about some of their favorite memories throughout all seventh to twelfth grade football. Chase Carter talked about the fumble he returned for a touchdown last year, during the Batesville game on senior night, which did not count. Jacob Snyder talked about whenever River Dean trucked Delvin Lipford in the spring game earlier in the year. Kaleb Bearce talked about whenever in seventh grade football with coach Sherman and Tyler Caubble came out with the wrong pads on his knee and thigh, yelling to coach Sherman “I’m ready coach!” and coach Sherman replying “No, you’re not.” And Blake Arnoult’s favorite memory was him puking repeatedly on the sideline during a game. Also another question we asked was what was their favorite foods Blake Arnoult said his was Mexican food. Kaleb Bearce said many ethnic foods. Connor Long said he likes sausage. Jacob said any type of cafeteria food. Jesus Mendoza said meatballs, and Chase Carter said tots.
