It ’ s hard to talk about Val and Ellie Pickles without mentioning 17 Garvey Street . Whether you were a child , grandchild , niece , nephew , Rodney , Craig , aunty , uncle , cousin , in-law , neighbour , friend , relative , or friend of a friend , everyone was always welcomed into the Pickles ’ home .
Family and friends were everything to Val , and this shone through the number of family gatherings , birthday ’ s ( which she loved – especially her own ), cuppas and visitors who graced the front verandah throughout the decades .
If you popped your head in on any day of the week at 3pm you were always welcomed with a cuppa , afternoon tea , and probably a cousin , aunty or distant relative you hadn ’ t seen in a few years . A special mention goes out to Val ’ s niece and friend Kerry , who visited from around the corner almost every day .
Val will always be remembered for her quick wit and positivity - even in the hardest of times , she would pronounce “ mustn ’ t grumble !” and soldier on .
There is no doubt in anyone ’ s mind that she ’ s now up in Heaven , reunited with her siblings , family members and Ellie , bringing everyone together for a cuppa with the big guy upstairs .
Val , your giving heart , resilience , and warped sense of humour shine through those you loved the most .
Your love will be remembered through every ditty , quarter strength cappuccino , happy meal , crossword puzzle and “ God Bless ” we share .
We love you . Rest in Peace .
