DAY TRIP TO
FRAILE RIVER
Valencia Language Exchange organizes
some day trips to different places. I
went with them only tree times, once to
Peniscola which is a small coastal city and
twice to the river. And I really enjoyed that
trips to the river!
Let’s start with the fact that I am from
Poland. And in Poland we have a lot of
rivers but they are very different from
Spanish ones. I would say that Spain
has more wild rivers, mountain rivers. In
Poland we have flat landform. Beacuse
of that rivers there are wide and definitely
impassable (well, only by a boat, kayak or
when you are swimming, but surely you
can’t pass a river afoot.) On the other hand
we also have mountains but there the
wather is cold and the current quite strong.
That is the reason that at the beginning it
was a suprise for me that spanish people –
whole families or groups of friends gather
together to walk in a river. Just to hike
there. In Poland nobody does it. Or at least
I don’t know anyone who does. We go to
the lakes, to swim there, to relax, rent a
kayak or a pedalo. So for me it was new
kind of an activity.
I love it that VLE organizes untypical trips
and they don’t visit only the cities. I find
other activities - like hiking or swimming
more interesting than visiting a city with
40
a guide. Fraile is a river located almost 2
hours from Valencia city. And it is a river
where no tourist would get alone. Cause
it’s hidden between the trees. I would say
that only locals know how to get there. I
was even wondering if bus driver knows
where we are going. And when we arrived
there where only spanish people…and
a lot of people. But it’s fully understood
cause it was hot, water was refreshing and
the views were quite amazing.
I really enjoyed the trip. It is like a whole day
walk but in the water. And surely in water
it is more tiring. But then you feel bigger
satistaction. And I like it that you go to the
nature but still you are surrounded by your
friends and you can talk with people while
hiking in water. Nini always goes on every
trip and he is good at being our guide. He
already knows almost everything, where
to jump, where to go, where are some
interesting spots. Sometimes it is quite
dangerous cause we have to remember
that it is a wild river and we should respect
mother nature. Moreover you can jump
from the rocks. If someone has never
done it he or she definitely should try! At
the beginning I was a little bit afraid of
jumping but after one jump you want to try
more times.
It was a great trip! In my opinion this
trip is rather demanding and it is not for
everyone. And surely you will be tired the
another day. But I really enjoyed that kind
of exercise. When going on a trip like this
you only have to remember about sport
shoes and that all of your things
can get wet. So I advice you
not to take a lot of stuff.
Just take yourself,
your shoes and
good humour!
