From our desk

Fall around town .
The season switches to fall for many places , and Valdosta stays bringing the summer heat . There are a number of options to stay cool and have fun around the city , like Kona Ice and Recoil . Kona Ice Lowndes County owners Russell and Brenda Hassenstab started six years ago , and now includes three trucks , a kiosk at the Valdosta Mall , and a presence at the Wild Adventures amusement park .
The truck provides children and adults with delicious and creative flavors to keep cool in the heat .
Recoil Trampoline Park celebrates four years in business this September . The trampoline park has transitioned to the hotspot for family fun with arcade games , laser tag , and the trampoline park all in one .
As we celebrate all of the things to do inside and outside , this issue highlights Lowndes County Board of Commissioner Chairman Bill Slaughter who received national recognition for his exceptional dedication to the parks and recreation community .
The National Association of Park & Recreation Officials ( NACPRO ) has named Slaughter as its esteemed “ Public Official of the Year ” for 2023 , in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority ( VLPRA ).
The celebration continues to the City of Valdosta for the new City Manager , Richard Hardy , and Assistant City Manager , Catherine Ammons . Both have extensive careers with the city and are working to make positive changes in the community .
This issue is full of fall-worthy things to do and places to go with celebrations for the leadership of our Valdosta - Lowndes County community .
Find a nice , cool fall area to enjoy this issue !
