SGMC hosted an outdoor topping-out ceremony for the community to celebrate its latest building project.

The Board of Directors, the construction crew, the medical staff and local and state elected officials were recognized during the ceremony.

The project began its initial development in 2022, when the hospital and the architectural teams involved with the building designed the new installations and performed the preconstruction work. Construction began in the spring of 2024, including the demolition of the former South Georgia Regional Library and Mathis Auditorium. The hospital broke ground on the construction site on Sept. 19, 2024.
“ This expansion project is a direct result of our SGMC Health physicians’ desire to provide an unsurpassed patient experience and unequaled access to advanced capabilities and the hard work and dedication of our 3,200 health system employees,” Ronald E. Dean, president and CEO of SGMC Health, said during the groundbreaking ceremony.
