An Iconic Railway Station Finds New Life

Anumber of years ago the two of us flew to Denver , Colorado , to catch Amtrak ’ s California Zephyr as it headed west . The Zephyr originates at Chicago ’ s Union Station but we were interested in the two-day , one-night scenic run from Colorado ’ s Front Range to the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada . Following a snowy night at a Denver hotel , a morning cab dropped us at Union Station where the Zephyr arrived two hours late , a delay that would triple before arrival at our California destination .

Denver ’ s Union Station serves as the city ’ s transportation hub with Amtrak , light rail , and bus service in a central location .
