The Blair Witch Project was a game-changer . Shot as if it is actual footage , it follows three students as they head into the Black Hills Forest to look into the Blair Witch legend . Things spiral out of control , and the whole movie is a slow descent into paranoia and fear . Its low-budget , found-footage style made it feel so real at the time that people thought it was real . If you like horror that messes with your head and lets your imagination run wild , this one has got you covered . The fear comes from what you do not see .
4 . Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark ( 2019 )
Based on the creepy books we all read as kids , Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark brings those nightmares to life . Set in 1968 , a group of teens finds a mysterious book filled with spooky stories that , to their horror , start coming true . It is full of freaky creatures and has the same eerie atmosphere as the original stories . If you grew up with the books , this movie is a nostalgic trip back to those nights you spent reading under the covers . Plus , with its PG-13 rating , it is perfect for a younger crowd looking for Halloween chills .

Scream shook up the horror scene by blending genuine scares with clever humor . It follows a group of high schoolers being terrorized by the masked Ghostface killer .
