For those who know me, I’ m not an outdoorsy person. I would much rather catch up on my latest TV show while enjoying a glass of wine on my couch. However, I recently went with my friend and her son to the park, and it got me thinking about other places we could take him this summer to play.
These questions eventually led to my idea for a“ get outdoors” themed issue.
I had no idea there were so many amazing parks to take your kids to in Valdosta. Actually, let me rephrase that. I had no clue there were so many parks in general, but not all of them are just for kids; there are pickleball courts for adults, walking trails, skateboard parks, and so much more. Your kids being entertained is just a plus. It wasn’ t even just about the parks though. I wanted people’ s adventure for the outdoors to start in
Valdosta, but it by no means had to end there. While I say I’ m not outdoorsy, I certainly enjoy the beach. I love jet skiing, water skiing, tubing, and a day on the boat. It’ s true that there’ s no beach in Valdosta, but the adventure, as said earlier, can start in Valdosta.
When I learned about Dave Stone’ s diving classes and his world travels I was instantly hooked.
Due to medical issues, I am unable to scuba dive, but that has never stopped me from being fascinated. My dad and sister are both certified and have gone on some amazing dives, but they pale in comparison to what Dave is offering people in South Georgia.
I implore those like me who have zero interest in hiking or camping to consider what he’ s offering. It’ s so much more than just a dive; it’ s a world-traveling experience. It’ s not just another day outside. You’ re seeing the likes of marine life that are not visible to the naked eye and most would dream of seeing and experiencing.
If diving is just a little too scary for you, I understand completely.
Maybe you don’ t have kids though and parks are just a little too noisy.
Don’ t worry, the Valdosta Country Club is the perfect solace, offering an amazing golf course, lessons, and just a beautiful day on the greens.
I recently covered the local private school’ s state championship on the golf course.
I know little to nothing about golf and thought the day would be a hot, tiring afternoon.
But, I was wrong. I loved riding around on the cart, keeping up with who was in the lead. It was like the Mini Masters if you will.
So, the golf course became another fun place for me to experience the outdoors without all the bugs and poison ivy.
I hope this issue helps you reconsider getting outdoors this summer. I know it’ s given me a new perspective on the true definition of what it means to“ get outdoors.”
