Travel back in time via steam train
and visit Camp 5 Museum in Laona
For a first-hand understanding of what life was
like for those who earned
their living in the logging
industry of Wisconsin’s
North Woods, climb aboard
the Lumberjack Steam
Train and visit the historic
Camp 5 Museum in Laona.
Guests will ride in a vintage caboose or passenger
coach car pulled by a 1916
vintage steam train to the
Camp 5 Museum.
Upon arrival, visitors
can enjoy the museum or
spend time in the petting
zoo. Customers can take a
pontoon boat ride on the
Rat River and enjoy good
food at the Choo Choo Hut
afterwards. Souvenirs are
also available at The
Cracker Barrel Gift Shop.
Visit Camp 5 on July 12
for great entertainment by
the Cowboys. Visitors may
witness a re-enacted train
robbery or the rescue of an
outlaw, and will also see the
horsemanship of cowboys
from the Wild West. The
family-friendly
event
promises great interaction
between the re-enactors
and spectators.
The Lumberjack Show
heads to Camp 5 on July
19. Real lumberjacks will
display their legendary
North Woods skills and
even invite members of the
audience to participate
with them.
Camp 5 and the Lumberjack Steam Train will
open for three color runs
each fall. This year’s dates
will be September 20, 27
and October 4.
Other fall activities
range from picking pumpkins from the pumpkin
patch, face painting and a
marshmallow roast. Visitors will also enjoy fresh
apple cider. Those who plan
their visit for October 4 will
also witness the Cowboys
as they return for another
Wild West re-enactment.
People of all ages will
enjoy an entertaining and
educational visit to the
Camp 5 Museum.
The cost is $20 for
adults, $8 for children (age
4-14), $60 for a family (two
adults and three or more
children) and children
younger than 3 get in free.
Those who work in the
timber industry, a member
of the Great Lakes Timber
Professionals Association,
plus their families enjoy a
30% discount.
Active servicemen and
women and their families
ride the steam train for
free.
The Lumberjack Steam
Train recently opened and
will run through August 23.
