VACATION WEEK Wed., Aug. 21, 2013 Page 11 Colorama events planned in North The North Woods is recognized across the Midwest as a summer recreation paradise, offering boating, fishing, golfing, hiking, camping and water sports of all kinds. Besides the many recreational activities, most communities and nonprofit organizations in Vilas and Oneida counties plan family-oriented events for residents and vacationers alike during the summer months. The activities range from art, antique and quilt shows to summer festivals, powwows and fishing tournaments. Most of the events include fun for all ages, plus plenty of food and refreshments. The following list of summer activities was compiled by the Vilas County Advertising Department. Aug. 30 thru Sept. 1, Gun Show, Eagle River — The annual show will be held at the Eagle River Sports Arena from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Aug. 31, Bike Tour, Three Lakes — The 22nd annual Nicolet Wheel-AWay will give riders a choice between an 18-mile or 36mile route on paved roads with views of the Nicolet National Forest and the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes. Phone (715) 546-3344. Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, Craft Fest, Eagle River — The Apple Harvest Craft Fest will be held at the Vilas County Fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Phone (715) 675-6201. Sept. 6-8, World Championship Musky Classic — The 37th annual event will be headquartered at the Manitowish Waters Community Center. Phone (715) 385-2400. Sept. 14, Colorama Craft Fair — The 21st annual Colorama arts and crafts fair at the Boulder Junction Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will feature wild-game sandwiches and a farmers market. Sept. 14, Colorama 5K/Brunch — Headquartered at Phelps School, starting with registration at 7 a.m. and 5-kilometer race starting at 8 a.m. The event will include bike, paddle and walk/run activities, followed by brunch. Phone (715) 545-3800. Sept. 14-15, Snowmobile Show — The Reunion at the Derby Track in Eagle River will feature vintage snowmobile displays and awards, grass drags and a swap meet. Sept. 21, Colorama — St. Germain, the “Birthplace of Colorama,” will host its 54th annual Colorama festival with arts and crafts, pumpkin painting for children, farmers market, scarecrow contest, flower sale and wine tasting at the community center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Phone (715) 477-2205. Sept. 21, Oktoberfest — The Colorama event will be held at Conover Community Center from 5 to 10 p.m. and will feature live music, dancing, food, prizes and raffles. Phone (715) 479-4928. Sept. 21, Cranberry Colorama — The Colorama celebration will feature marsh tours, a cooking contest, live music, crafts, pontoon cruises and the “Taste of Harvest” from area restaurants. Sept. 27-29, Colorama Weekend — A Colorama weekend is planned at Sayner from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with a brunch and indoor craft show to be held at the Sayner Recreational Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
