Going Dutch
Q: How would you describe your band style?
Our performance depends less on 'style' and more on intention. We would not consider any note that we produce on our respective instruments as being part of any tonal scale or thematic relevance, but rather a stylus upon which the ink of our story is allowed to coalesce. In truth, the 'band' is but one part of our performance, and reveals only a modicum of the Tragedy of the Dutchman. When attempting to quantify this aspect of our performance into conventional 'styles', our answers vary significantly. To some, we may appear to fall into the vein of "experimental rock" or "baroque pop", while others might see us as "avant garde bubblegum progtronica" borrowing heavily from the Noh theatrical tradition.
Q: Who is on your band and how did you meet each other ?
According to the mythos of Going Dutch, our founding members were Reuben de Groot of the Netherlands, Piers van der Mäzen of South Africa, and Ahearn Quinn of Northern Ireland, with Italian businessman Fabio Vanzetti, Icelandic nomad Davkas Wyrvenjack, The Zōhn, and German historian Hans Klumpter joining throughout the years. Aside from these personae, the ensemble prefers to live in relative anonymity. We happened across each other at Mount Airy High School, where we quickly began to explore the themes of loss, spiritual enlightenment, and respect that are now integral to our performance.
