OF RISINGS: A SNAPSHOT
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO:
“ City of Joy was a dancing square. It was a rising space that opened a path in which risers will walk a journey of liberation. The risers declared that the energy they accumulated must ooze and become contagious. If we want the DRC to be free, the seeds of this freedom must come from the women. Artists were honored, they sung for freedom, and they denounced the massacres of innocent Congolese whose bodies have become the battlefield. They deplored the imbalanced world that perpetrates femicide. The songs echoed messages of revolution – calls for women’ s protection and rights – calls for the protection of the environment. These songs were calls to put human rights and the welfare of the Congolese at the center of every initiative and decision.”
