V-Day Annual Report 2024 | Page 3

Amidst the turmoil and struggle, things continue to glimmer in V-World.
V-Day’ s newest artistic program, VOICES – an interdisciplinary audio play grounded in Black women’ s stories of the African continent and diaspora – had its US debut at the Apollo Theater in May.
The City of Joy in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to RISE amidst the devastation of economic plunder, war, and resulting poverty. 2158 women have graduated. There are 25 graduates working at V-World Farm, continuing the process of healing themselves by working the earth and learning the techniques of sustainable agriculture. Our network of graduates is a dynamic and powerful base of women who are changing their communities across the Congo.
The V-Day Safe House for the Girls in Narok County, Kenya continues to provide shelter and community for Maasai girls rejecting the longheld practices of Female Genital Mutilation and Early Childhood Marriage. The community of girls now includes college and university students who are drastically transforming the fates of their families by pursuing higher education and a variety of career paths. Agnes Pareyio, the Safe House’ s visionary founder, continues to advocate for an end to FGM across Maasailand from the Safe House and the Parliament, where she is quickly approaching a reelection bid.
This year’ s SOLIDARITY PROJECTS represent a range of innovative and courageous grassroots activists and groups working to end violence against all women, girls and the Earth. They are leaders spanning many spheres who share a common vision for social justice and reciprocity.
We are thrilled for you to get to know the work more deeply in these pages and witness- across the movement- survivors, artists and activists gathered together, channeling art and creativity with a shared vision and mission for a world free from violence.
Your solidarity and support make it possible. In solidarity,
