SURIYA WOMEN ’ S DEVELOPMENT CENTRE is a non-profit organization first set up to provide support to the special needs of women in the welfare centres located in and around the capital city following the mass displacement of Tamil , Muslim , and Sinhala families in 1990 in Sri Lanka . Suriya is committed to working with and for women from Tamil and Muslim communities through gender empowerment , development and cultural programs , aiming to create an equitable and peaceful society free of discrimination against women .
TEWA envisions a country without discrimination and injustice , in which all women enjoy their rights , freedom , and peace . When women struggling with poverty , marginalization and invisibility organize collectively , they amplify their voices , strengthen their leadership , and overcome injustice . Tewa supports groups of women by funding their initiatives , enhancing their capacities , and connecting them to other relevant groups and national initiatives and processes . Through funding and capacity development , Tewa supports women to organize , raise their voices collectively and transform discriminatory policies , systems , norms and practices . Funds went towards their general work .
WOMEN ’ S COMMUNITY JUSTICE ASSOCIATION , Women ’ s Community Justice Organization seeks to disrupt and dismantle the unjust , racially charged systems that target black and brown communities and perpetuate trauma , violence , and harm to women , trans , and gender-expansive populations . To further the fight , it continuously advocates for racial , budget , and gender justice in reducing the number of incarcerations of these communities , aiming to further the long-term stability of these vulnerable female and gender-expansive populations currently and historically involved in the criminal injustice system ; and supporting broader criminal injustice reform .
