DISMANTLE PATRIARCHY PROJECT
The Dismantle Patriarchy contest is an opportunity to welcome ideas from young voices and minds about how we might literally dismantle — take apart , break into pieces , deconstruct — patriarchy .
Contest paused due to Covid : With our partner A Call to Men , V-Day did extensive outreach for Dismantle Patriarchy to V-Day and One Billion rising college and community organizers , high school administrators / educators , community partners , and youth activist networks ; however , engagement was limited as a direct result of Covid and the ongoing uncertainty and constant change facing both young students and college-aged students whose educational experience has been disjointed at best . YouthACT !, the youth-led organization that is helping promote and will ultimately judge the contest , shared similar concerns .
This mirrors A Call to Men ’ s 2020 experience overall , which has seen all areas of their work bounce back and wholeheartedly commit to virtual training , education , and engagement , with the exception of curriculum implementation in middle and high schools . Teachers and administrators were overwhelmed , reporting that they did not have the bandwidth for any programs deemed “ extra .”
Following the pause , together with A Call to Men , we will reevaluate this Summer and determine if a launch in the Fall of 2021 is viable in schools . Ideas for 2021 / 2022 launch include a massive social media campaign decontructing and defining what Patriarchy is , a teach in , and a launch on Tik Tok .
