in Male, the capital of MALDIVES, OBR was
conducted during a time when State of Emergency
was declared. Still, OBR events continued even with
difficulties – including sports matches, discussions on
ending VAW, artistic gatherings of women with singing
and dancing, and family evenings with speeches and
music on raising awareness.
MONGOLIA rose with the theme “One Billion Rising
Mongolia 2018: Women’s March” with nationwide
events in 21 provinces and cities. Universities and
the general public participated in marches all over the
country. Workshops were conducted in 13 universities.
Young peace leaders in PAKISTAN took OBR to 8
districts all over the country to reach out to various
schools, fields, hotels, public parks, libraries, bar
councils and other places to outreach OBR and women’s
issues. Then organizing OBR events - peace tables with
women in far flung communities on being leaders in peace
making. They celebrated OBR solidarity with 25 women
from different districts in their first event National Sangat
feminist course.
NEPAL rose with street marches, flash mobs, workshops
on eco-feminism, poetry and spoken word events, painting
events with the theme “My definition of freedom’ and
dancing their Nepali revolutionary song together with
“Break The Chain”.
TAIWAN held their OBR celebrations with a MeToo event
and a big fare in central Taipei with over 2,000 people –
mostly students, including a march, a protest action with
masks, and advocacy events dedicated to giving services to
the public.
SYDNEY, Australia had a series of risings organized by
Asian Women at Work focusing on workers rights and rights of
aboriginal women. Australia saw major risings in major cities
across the country.
