The OAKLAND USA rising included
a diverse artistic event, creating a
“Tree of Belonging”, with community
performance rituals, pieces on
generational violence, on loving their
bodies, and ended with drumming,
dancing and deep community healing with
people across race, gender and age.
GABON rose with a piece of theater
by young people, and a football match
between community leaders.
The OBR theme in ZIMBABWE was
“Laying Bare the Face of Violence of
Zimbabwe” with a series of events,
culminating with a huge artistic rising in
Harare. In Gokwe province, a rising took
place upon the invitation of the Zimbawe
Chiefs Council at a traditional chief’s
homestead to break traditional customs
which exacerbate abuse. Another rising in
the province of Selous was led by communal
farmers.
CAMEROON held two drama sketches
on the theme of “solidarity for peace, unity
and empowerment for women” by university
students – after holding a month long OBR
series on income generating activities and
motivational talks for women.

ZAMBIA held a month long awareness
sensitization series of meetings on the issue
of child marriage, its laws and implementation
– culminating in OBR artistic risings led by
communities with songs, dance, poetry and drama.
