THREE PLAYS – ONE YEAR!
In December, Abingdon Theatre Company presented Eve’s play
EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES
in New York City starring The Trevor Project’s Co-Founder, actor and longtime V-Day supporter James Lecesne, who first debuted
it off-Broadway in 1995. Proceeds from these performances were shared with Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS.
Eve returned to the New York City stage this year at the Manhattan Theatre Club with
IN THE BODY OF THE WORLD
her astounding play based on her critically acclaimed memoir. Directed by Tony
Award winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin), In the Body of the World was an
American Repertory Theater production. Eve gave what is being described as
a “Tour de force performance” that is “…brilliant, devastating and hilarious;
cracking open your mind and quickening your spirit.” On Tuesday, February 6,
In the Body of the World officially opened at Manhattan Theatre Club to
spectacular reviews. With full houses of overwhelmingly diverse audiences
almost every night the show has an unprecedented word of mouth.
Eve and Tony worked with Manhattan Theatre Club on curating a talkback series
called Beyond the Stage, mirroring the Act 2 conversations that took place
at the American Repertory Theatre. Beyond the Stage post-show discussions
are led by a group of artists, medical professionals, scholars and activists in
support of the play, like V-Board member Kimberlé Crenshaw and some of the
mothers from Crenshaw’s Say Her Name, Eve’s life-saving team from The Mayo
Clinic, Actor and Co-Founder of The Trevor Project James Lecesne, Christine
Schuler Deschryver and Doctors without Borders to name a few. From V-Day,
Executive Director Susan Celia Swan, Senior Programs Director Purva Panday
Cullman, Acting Campaigns Director, Tony Montenieri.
In the Body of the World was nominated for three Outer Critics Circle
Awards and two Drama League Awards.
