2. Container and charge:
The container acts as the delivery system for the main charge. This can be further subdivided into types of
carriers used such as artillery projectiles (ordinance) or mortar rounds for road side bombs. Suicide vests,
metal containers (propane tanks) and vehicles (motorized and non-such as bicycles). IEDs concealed within
a vehicle are referred to as a VBIED and if driven by a suicide bomber a SVBIED. Explosives can be
homemade, commercial or military and include the use of incendiaries. Chemical, Biological, Radiological
and Nuclear (CBRN) materials may also be present (dirty bomb). 5
Shrapnel: Nails, ball bearings and other assorted pieces of metal debris can be added to the container to
maximize collateral damage. 6 If a vehicle is used, it will produce its own shrapnel which increases the
effective radius of the kill zone from the initial primary explosion.

capacitor packs
