19 Police & Military/Scenario: Attacker attempts to disarm Officer or Soldier. Breakdown: The instinctive reaction is to move your weapon side (hip away from the gun grab) which is fine, but you must go after the bad-guy after this and not get fixated on just protecting your holster. You goal is to “Attack the Attacker” at this point and without this mindset you will be operating in a purely defensive mode. I am using my L hand in the picture to strike my opponents head at the crown or alternatively around the ear affecting his balance. I stuff his head into a cross-face position using my R thumb (elbows in) under the Attacker’s cheekbone (Malar) making him look away from me. The opponents head should be cradled like a football from here and the position is very painful. I clasp both of my hands into a modified Gable Grip and wedge the Attacker’s face tightly between both of my forearms. This position is 100% stronger than a headlock as it relies on core strength (hips and abs) and no arm strength what-soever. I will snap my hips around and down towards my feet and not away from my body to maximize the effect and impact of the throw. Details: Most students I teach need to be corrected on their elbow positions as they tend to be bring them out from their body rather than to keep them in tight.
