Happy Mother's Day

Hair: Renowned Flair

Growing up, what did you think you wanted to do for a living?

If I remember correctly, a singer. Music runs through my family and I grew up seeing my sister and brother singing. I was fascinated of being on stage and the reaction and attention you get when performing. So I guess it naturally occurred to me that I'd be a singer.

How have your notions of what it means to be a mother changed?

Being a mother I've gained a variety of experiences and I know I'm yet to have many more. So this has allowed me to have a better understanding and appreciation on the role of a being a mother. From a child's perspective, there's plenty you think you know and also the perception that mothers don't 'understand' . Only after becoming a mom, many a things begin to unfold and your mindset broadens. At the same time, for me I've noted a few things of what shouldn't be, based on my own experiences with my mom and also with my son.

When did you know you were ready to have children?

Wow... Well in my case I certainly didn't know and wasn't prepared to have a child. I was young.

20 going on 21 years in fact. Furthermore I was to have an abortion. But God has a way of working in mysterious ways and a series of events occurred which changed that course. One day, I made an appointment to meet with my Parish priest, Father Harvey and in the presence of my mom, I told my mom that I was going to have this child. And even then, I still wasn't ready... I was frighten and worried but by the grace of God there was something which drove my determination to have this child. Presently, I live to see why I had to bring this blessing in this world. As he is the light which continues to burn in my family and especially my life. But for the record, I'm still not even ready for another child.

How is your relationship with your child or children?

Fantastic! I have an open relationship with my son, and by that I mean we can talk about anything. I always encourage my son to tell and/or ask me anything. This way he knows that mummy is in interested in what he has to say. (laughs) Even if it means listening to him talk about something funny in a cartoon. Times have evolved drastically, and social media has become prevalent. So if my son is unclear of something, I want him to always be comfortable to ask his mummy about ANYTHING.

What is the craziest thing you have done since becoming a mother?

That may have to be, learning the art form of "mokojumbie" and "firebreeding". Although in my books, I don't consider that being crazy, but to many it is. (laughs)

What do you do for fun?

Not much really, as I have a hectic schedule. So my free time/fun time is usually spent behind the TV, a day at the beach or movie night out. However, recently I've sought a major interest in outdoor adventurous activities, such as hiking. (con't on page 15)
