Letter From the President
Dear #UVUPRCrew,
This month’s newsletter is focused on Millenials favorite thing; social media. I have an interesting take on the subject considering I didn’t even have a personal Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or YouTube account until eight months ago and only had Facebook and LinkedIn a short time before that. I am that Millennial who was extremely late to the digital party.
I didn’t want to become versed in social media because I felt that online platforms were “ruining the world’s communication skills.” These past eight months I have learned that statement couldn’t be further from the truth. I still believe that interacting face-to-face conveys a message more effectively than could ever be done online, but now feel that strategic online communication can be one of the most thoroughly powerful forms of expression in existence.
Keeping this in mind, it’s important that each of us Millenials realize that every post and every tweet send a message to the world about who you are, what you believe, what you’re capable of, and what you’re all about.
This semester, my COMM Field Experience 202R course has been teaching our class this principle through the assignment to formulate and implement our own online branding and communication strategies. In preparation for the PRSSA National Conference next week, each of us have created personal websites telling the world more of our story than can be written on a resume.
Check out each of the sites below!
I would encourage all PRSSA
members to register for the course
next spring when the group travels
to NYC. Learning online
communication strategy truly has
been the most beneficial skill I have
learned throughout my colligate career and am thrilled that the world can now find ME online because my story, (like everyone’s) deserves to be told.
Until next time Wolverines!
