– UTD TECHNIQUES –
ASCENDING IN CURRENT
1. Give up any
idea that you
must be facing
your teammate
on an ascent.
2. Establish the
direction of the
current and postion yourselves
side by side face
the current.
4. Do not over-exert
youself. A proper ascent is based on a resting sac rate of .5 cft/
min or 15 l/min. Do
not spend your ascent
furiously kicking to
stay on the line.
3. Do your
ascent and gas
switches side
by side.
5. Consider that in a
strong current a
scooter may be
considered a piece of
life support equipment,
holding you in sight
of the line.
