Beside the fact that he was a friend, giving a UTD course
for a non-diver for the first time was another reason to be
excited about.
Ever since I joined UTD, we talked a lot about the law
of primacy: how the first thing you learn is the thing you
remember the most. I have witnessed endless debates
among divers, and also instructors, about trim being hard
to learn, about how you need to be an experienced diver
to learn proper trim, buoyancy, and other personal skills.
I have even heard instructors say that starting a student
