Then it ’ s time for a new MARINE SCIENCE SNORKELING adventure !
San Diego ’ s ocean and shoreline are amazing ... home to spectacular marine life , including our state fish , the Garibaldi , and forests of giant kelp filled with sea life .
Come have a grand adventure exploring the big blue . First , you ’ ll practice snorkeling in UTD ’ s on-site heated pool . Then we ’ ll show you lots of the local sea life , both on the shore and in the water .
Because we never touch any wild animals or fish in the ocean , we ’ re going to give you cameras so you can search for as many species as you can find . The team that can identify the most will win an award and bragging rights . And you be protecting this beautiful and diverse ocean environment .
Day 1 : Meet at UTD Headquarters . First you ’ ll learn about local critters and where they live . Then we ’ ll jump in the heated pool and practice proper snorkeling techniques .
Day 2 : Meet at Mission Bay . After a recap on proper snorkeling techniques and which critters we hope to see , we will hit the calm waters of Mission Bay and see our new fishy friends within their home environment . You will seek and photography as many kinds of fish as you can find . Before your parents get you back , we will share our fish tales and talk about how our actions affect and protect the marine environment .
PARENTS , THIS PART IS FOR YOU :
Upon completion of the two days your child will have gained knowledge and respect for our ocean , a link to access their photos , and a UTD Snorkel Diver Certificate .
UTD is a dive training and certification agency . As a matter of environmental preservation , we teach that humans should never touch anything in the ocean . So your kids will be taught to look but not to touch . That ’ s why we give them cameras .
We provide your child with all the snorkel equipment and camera . The course requires a UTD Snorkeling course book purchase of $ 29.95 . All parents must sign a waiver and medical history form for each child .
Classes Monday and Tuesday 9am-2pm ( 3-hour extensions are available ).
