ART THEORY
Art theory at USQ equips students with the knowledge to understand
the visual arts as a profession, but also as a source of expression and a
pursuit of vocation. Art history, cultural and aesthetic theories as much
as practical making, underpin the practices of the professional creator.
CERAMICS
Ceramics at USQ provides a rigorous foundation in wheel throwing,
hand-building and slip casting, as well as glaze theory and kiln firings.
Experimentation is encouraged to help further students’ knowledge of
materials, techniques and ideas.
DRAWING
Drawing at USQ focuses on equipping students with technical and
conceptual skills, including the ability to visually problem solve.
Through the process of drawing, students are able to identify and to
refine their areas of interest and to then pursue careers in creative arts.
PAINTING
Painting at USQ allows students to develop a deep understanding
of both traditional and contemporary painting methods, techniques
and materials. From this knowledge they are able to experiment and
develop their own voice as a visual artist.
PRINTMAKING
Printmaking at USQ is well equipped to teach a variety of techniques,
such as etching, relief printing, screenprinting, and collagraph. Every
year students participate in an Australia-wide university folio exchange.
SCULPTURE
Sculpture at USQ introduces students to an exciting diversity of 3D
art practices such as installations, textiles, wood and metal work, and
object-based works. Students exhibit their work within gallery contexts
and community-based settings, ensuring industry-readiness.
