ONCE UPON A TIME
IN THE WEST
27 July 6:30pm
Western
2h 44min | Italy, USA | 1968 | English Subtitles
This 1968 epic Spaghetti Western is a masterpiece
and is often referred by film buffs as the greatest
film ever made.
Written and directed by Sergio Leone, this film was
the first of the iconic ‘Once upon a time…’ trilogy.
These were the last films directed by Leone, the
father of the Spaghetti Western genre at the peak
of his profession.
The film follows a mysterious stranger with a
harmonica as he joins forces with a notorious
desperado to protect a beautiful widow from
a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.
Famously snobbed by Clint Eastwood, the film’s
cast includes Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson
and Claudia Cardinale. However its full cast and
crew list is so extensive that the end credits are
a whop ping 10 minutes long!
Trivia bite: Sergio made more than 100 references
in the script to the films that influenced his career
the most – see if you can spot them all!
