Born from a therapy session during writer/director
Lars von Trier’s treatment for depression, it’s the
film that won Kirsten Dunst not one, but two best
actress awards! Melancholia is a psychological
drama, which explores the observation that
depression sufferers have a tendency to remain
peaceful in the face of catastrophe.
The film follows two sisters as a rogue planet
sets a collision course for earth. While one sister
struggles to find happiness on what should be
the happiest day of her life, the other struggles to
maintain composure in the face of sure disaster.
Trivia bite: Lead actress, Kirsten Dunst and
Director, Lars von Trier share the same birthday.
