USQ Artsworx What's On 2018 What's On Vol. 1 | Page 3

WELCOME The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) came into being thanks to the vision and determination of local community members. Local people from all walks of life willingly took their cause to the Commonwealth Government in Canberra to fight for the right to house a place of higher education in the city of Toowoomba. Fifty years ago, that community understood the value of helping residents to further their ambitions and dreams by going to university. They understood how important it was to learn, experiment, share ideas, and develop skills. It was through cultivating the mind, body and spirit that individuals and the community at large could become stronger and more productive. Today, nothing has really changed in this regard. The community still aspires to this as evidenced by the success of the USQ Bachelor of Creative Arts degree which is dedicated to enabling emerging artists. All of the events and activities in our 2018 Season program are designed to cultivate mind, body and spirit through direct experience as participant and as audience member. The skills and knowledge of our staff and students are on display to capture your imagination and to stimulate your senses. The ways in which you respond to the live music and theatre, the films and visual art exhibitions, in turn inspires us to create more and to learn more. Professor Rhod McNeill, Head of USQ School of Arts and Communication and Dr Rebecca Scollen, USQ Artsworx Artistic Director. Please join us in 2018. Cover Photo Credit:Model; Rebekah Harrison.
