provide students with the correct answer but it can scaffold students by giving them
hint letters which help them limit their guesses and cope with words they consider
difficult.
c. The jcloze: This activity gives the teacher the chance to delete certain
words from the text and to ask students to reconstruct it. According to West (2000,
Unit 3: 46) a cloze task focuses on the process of reading, i.e. it checks the reader’s
ability to understand the text while she is reading it. Both the focus of the activity and
the degree of difficultness can be adjusted as the teacher has complete control over the
words which are deleted. Once again, students can be provided with hint letters in
case they cannot cope with some words.
